Westerner Days parking mess meant part of concert missed

Last night (Saturday, July 23), we went to Westerner Park to attend the Johnny Reid concert.

Last night (Saturday, July 23), we went to Westerner Park to attend the Johnny Reid concert.

My daughter arrived at the gates to the park with a $50 bill in hand to pay for her parking.

She was refused entry as “We don’t take 50 dollar bills.”

We could not find any place where this was publicly stated.

My wife hurried down to the gates to pay for her to park. At this point, the lot was full. My daughter then went to the other gates to find they were also full.

She then hurried down to a church about two miles away and parked in their lot and ran back to the grounds — she missed the first set.

To top things off, my wife went and bought a beer from a vendor and paid for the beer with that same $50 bill.

The staff were rude and unhelpful and refused to do anything to accept legal Canadian tender.

As you can imagine, my wife was livid and my daughter extremely upset as they had purchased tickets as soon as the concert was announced only to be treated in a manner that put a huge damper on the evening for them.

If I had my way, we’d never attend another event at the Westerner simply because of this treatment.
