Wild Rose opts for old name

Wild Rose School Division is officially Wild Rose School Division, again.

Wild Rose School Division is officially Wild Rose School Division, again.

The jurisdiction covering Rocky Mountain House, Leslieville, Caroline and other communities west of Red Deer has been operating publicly under the name Wild Rose Public Schools for the last nine years.

While Wild Rose School Division has remained the jurisdiction’s legal name over the period, the division used the secondary designation on its communications materials, branding, and as part of its logo.

But at its Nov. 26 meeting, the school board voted to return the name Wild Rose School Division for public use.

The division’s management team made the reversion request because it felt the two names created “competing brands.”

Also, it noted acronym confusion that the secondary name brought forth, because WRPS is also used by Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools.

To reduce the financial impact on the division resulting from the public name change, superintendent Brian Celli said sign, stationery, and card replacements will be phased in gradually as need demands.
