Wildcats maul Cougs

The Stettler Wildcats used a solid ground attack to take a 30-7 victory over the Notre Dame Cougars in Central Alberta High School Football League play Thursday.The ‘Cats rushed for 307 yards with Braden Nelson accumulating 190 yards on 18 carries and scoring a pair of touchdowns.

STETTLER — The Stettler Wildcats used a solid ground attack to take a 30-7 victory over the Notre Dame Cougars in Central Alberta High School Football League play Thursday.

The ‘Cats rushed for 307 yards with Braden Nelson accumulating 190 yards on 18 carries and scoring a pair of touchdowns.

Nick Baharally touched the ball once and picked up 56 yards.

Austin Cherewko and Rickey Armstrong had one touchdown each for the Wildcats with Elliott Mabbot kicking four converts. Stettler’s other points came on a safety.

Kieran Mill scored for the Cougars with Luis Moreno adding the convert.

Myles Corsiatto returned from the injured list for the Cougars and carried 14 times for 57 yards. Mill had 39 yards on nine tries.

Quarterback Kieran Pruden completed 14 of 32 passes for 183 yards with Ryan Davis catching six for 53 yards and Brady Podloski three for 78 yards.

League action continues tonight with the 5-0 Hunting Hills Lightning at the 6-0 Sylvan Lake Lakers at 4 p.m., the Rocky Mountain House Rebels visiting the Lindsay Thurber Raiders at 7 p.m. at Great Chief Park and the Lacombe Rams at the Camrose Trojans at 7 p.m.
