A small wildfire caused by a lightning strike west of Nordegg has been classified as “out of control,” but the plan is to let it burn.

The 49-acre fire is burning approximately 50 km west of Nordegg, near the North Saskatchewan Crossing junction and Banff National Park boundary.

Wildfire management officials plan to let the blaze continue, as fires can help to create healthy forests.

It is the only Alberta wildfire currently classified as “out of control.”
