Wildfire that threatened homes now listed as under control

A wildfire that had threatened homes southwest of Edmonton since last Wednesday has been declared under control.

LINDALE — A wildfire that had threatened homes southwest of Edmonton since last Wednesday has been declared under control.

The flames forced about 200 people to flee the Lindale area for a few days last week and placed others on evacuation notice.

People were allowed to return to their homes Friday due to cool, rainy weather and the work of fire crews.

And Brazeau County officials have now lifted a two-hour evacuation notice for the area.

Fire crews will continue patrolling the area looking for flareups.

The county says a state of local emergency and a full fire ban are to remain in effect for the time being as a precaution.
