Wildrose claims to enjoy spinoffs from Tory leadership race

The Wildrose party says it is enjoying some spinoffs from the Alberta Tory leadership race.

EDMONTON — The Wildrose party says it is enjoying some spinoffs from the Alberta Tory leadership race.

A Wildrose official says the party has sold almost 300 memberships since the first vote was held Saturday to choose a new premier.

Executive director Shayne Saskiw says that’s about triple the normal rate.

Saskiw suggests people who were supporting failed leadership candidate Ted Morton may be moving to the Wildrose.

Morton has thrown his support behind front-runner Gary Mar.

A runoff vote between Mar, former justice minister Alison Redford and one-time deputy premier Doug Horner will be held Oct. 1.
