EDMONTON — The Opposition Wildrose party is asking the auditor general to investigate reports that Alberta Health Services bought more than 11,000 computers and laptops and then let them sit in a warehouse.
Opposition critic Kerry Towle says the cost to taxpayers is almost $10 million.
The Wildrose says the information was recently leaked to them by an inside source.
The Wildrose says Alberta Health Services bought the machines at the end of the 2011-2012 budget year for use in Edmonton.
But the computers weren’t put to use as planned and were warehoused until last June, when the source drew the government’s attention to them.
Premier Alison Redford said the Wildrose comments are only allegations and have not been proven.
