CALGARY — A woman accused in the attempted murder of a newborn baby rescued from a dumpster faces more charges.

CALGARY — A woman accused in the attempted murder of a newborn baby rescued from a dumpster faces more charges.

Meredith Katharine Borowiec, 30, has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Police say officers investigating last fall’s discovery of the baby in a garbage bin in Calgary’s northwest learned about the deaths of two other infants.

They say one was born in 2008 and the other was born in 2009.

It is alleged both babies died shortly after their birth, but their bodies have not been found.

Police consulted with the Crown prosecutor before laying the charges.

Borowiec was to appear in court Tuesday.

In the original case, the baby’s father was on his way home in October 2010 when he and other passersby heard crying and found the infant in a garbage bag.

Police and EMS workers were called and the baby was taken to hospital.

The father and his girlfriend told police at the time they didn’t know she was pregnant.

Borowiec is also charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, child abandonment and failing to provide the necessities of life for a child under 16.
