Woman charged with defrauding investors

Mounties have charged a Red Deer woman with defrauding real estate investors of more than $200,000.

Mounties have charged a Red Deer woman with defrauding real estate investors of more than $200,000.

Red Deer RCMP say they received several complaints last August about giving a person money for real estate opportunities that didn’t materialize.

The complainants say the deposits were to purchase residences that were billed as bank foreclosures.

But police confirmed the properties were not legitimately for sale between August 2007 and last October.

Celine de Castro, 50, was arrested Wednesday and charged with nine counts of fraud under $5,000 and three counts of uttering a forged document.

De Castro was released on bail and is set to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Feb. 9.
