A jury has found a 20-year-old Calgary woman guilty of killing her mother.

CALGARY — A jury has found a 20-year-old Calgary woman guilty of killing her mother.

Brittany Jewel Mahingen was charged with second-degree murder, but the jury convicted her Wednesday of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Leanne Mahingen, who was 37, was found dead in a downtown apartment where the two were babysitting in November 2009.

Court has heard the two were drinking heavily while babysitting an 18-month-old child at the time of the death.

Brittany Mahingen cried and bit her fingernails as the verdict was read.

Sentencing arguments are scheduled for Friday.
