Woman dies in van rollover in northwestern Alberta

An Edmonton woman is dead and a boy is in hospital after a van rolled on a straight gravel road in a remote area of northwestern Alberta.

BUFFALO LAKE — An Edmonton woman is dead and a boy is in hospital after a van rolled on a straight gravel road in a remote area of northwestern Alberta.

RCMP say some of the people who were inside the van Friday morning near the Buffalo Lake Metis Settlement fled the accident scene.

At least one person told someone who lived nearby that there was a critically injured woman inside the van.

She was pronounced dead by emergency crews.

An injured 16-year-old youth was found in another nearby home and he was flown to an Edmonton hospital by helicopter in stable condition.

Police believe alcohol and speed were factors in the crash and that none of the people inside the van were wearing seatbelts.
