A 21-year-old woman has died from the injuries she suffered when her vehicle rolled through the median and into northbound lanes on Hwy 2 on Monday afternoon.

The woman lost control of her southbound vehicle after the tire blew, said Const. Chris Noble, with Ponoka’s Integrated Traffic Services in a press release.

Ponoka RCMP responded to the single-vehicle collision about two km north on Hwy 53 at around 1:45 p.m.

The woman was transported by STARS air ambulance to an Edmonton hospital. A male passenger, who was also in the vehicle at the time of the accident, was taken to a local hospital and later released.

Police say the woman succumbed to her injuries at 9 p.m. on Monday night. Her name is not being released at this time.

Traffic was re-routed through Ponoka on Hwy 2A for about two hours while emergency crews worked to clear the scene on Monday.
