CALGARY — A Calgary woman has been fined $1,000 and prohibited from owning an animal for 10 years for abandoning an injured puppy outside a vet clinic.

Cynthia Guan was charged after Mike, a Doberman puppy, was found inside a bloody kennel in November 2009.

The pup was severely underweight and dehydrated and was in such bad shape the veterinarians could only guess its age — they thought he was about three months old.

Mike also had head injuries and a broken front leg.

A six-month investigation led to the charges against Guan.
