Women’s shelter needs sponsors for fundraiser

The Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter seeks sponsors for an upcoming domestic abuse awareness event and fundraiser.

The first annual Breakfast with the Guys goes on Nov. 28 from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Red Deer Golf and Country Club.

The keynote speaker is Jackson Katz, an American anti-sexism lecturer, author and critic whose presentation is entitled the Macho Paradox: Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help.

A panel discussion on domestic abuse will feature Red Deer Mayor Morris Flewwelling, city RCMP head Insp. Warren Dosko, Lacombe Police Chief Gary Leslie and psychotherapist Dr. Jim Freeman.

Tickets for the event, which are limited to 128, are $100 each or $700 for a table of eight.

All proceeds from the event will fund the shelter’s ongoing programs to fight family violence.

Sponsorship opportunities range from the $500 to the $2,000 level, with individual or corporate benefits commensurate with support.
