Workers ratify contract

Workers who went on a month-long strike at a southern Alberta nursing home have ratified a new contract.

MEDICINE HAT — Workers who went on a month-long strike at a southern Alberta nursing home have ratified a new contract.

Wages were a key issue in the dispute at the Valleyview Care Centre in Medicine Hat.

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees says the contract calls for wage increases of between 28 per cent and 40 per cent over four years.

The 60 people who work at the long-term care home are expected to return to work on Friday.

AgeCare, the company that owns the facility, says it is pleased the workers have ratified the contract.
