Red Deer native Danielle Wotherspoon captured the women’s first 500-metre race at the Canada Cup No. 4 and Oval Finale long track speed skating meet Thursday.

CALGARY — Red Deer native Danielle Wotherspoon captured the women’s first 500-metre race at the Canada Cup No. 4 and Oval Finale long track speed skating meet Thursday.

Wotherspoon won the race in 38.55 seconds with Canadian junior champion Kate Hanly of Calgary at 38.86 and Kaylin Irvine of Calgary at 38.87.

Overall there were 88 competitors from 12 countries involved. The second 500m race goes today.
