Wranglers rope up first with drubbing of Ponoka

The Blackfalds Wranglers moved back into first place in the North Division of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League with a 16-3 win over the shorthanded Ponoka Stampeders Tuesday.

BLACKFALDS — The Blackfalds Wranglers moved back into first place in the North Division of the Heritage Junior B Hockey League with a 16-3 win over the shorthanded Ponoka Stampeders Tuesday.

The win gave the Wranglers 56 points, one ahead of the Red Deer Vipers, with two games remaining.

The Wranglers play at Airdrie Friday and host High River Sunday at 3:30p.m.

The Vipers have one game remaining as they visit Three Hills Friday at 8 p.m.

Jason Bell and Jared Williams scored three goals each for the Wranglers against Ponoka with Trent Hermary and Landon Wolitski potting two goals each. Single goals were added by Stephen Pietsch, Jared Ramstead, Dylan Wiedmer, Jared Guilbault, Jared Kambeitz and Brandon Kunz.

Thomas Isaman made 23 saves in goal for the win.

Eli Falls and Aaron Swier combined to make 70 saves for the Stampeders, who only had 11 skaters.

l In other news, the Vipers will host their alumni game Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Arena. Fans can use their season tickets, or bring a donation for the food bank.
