Youth sentenced to house arrest on firearms charges

A 15-year-old youth was sentenced on Monday in Rocky Mountain House provincial court after pleading guilty to two counts of pointing a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a firearm. The Rocky youth is to serve concurrent sentences of four months house arrest followed by 12 months probation on each of the three charges. He is also prohibited from possessing a firearm for the rest of his life.

A 15-year-old youth was sentenced on Monday in Rocky Mountain House provincial court after pleading guilty to two counts of pointing a firearm and one count of unlawful use of a firearm.

The Rocky youth is to serve concurrent sentences of four months house arrest followed by 12 months probation on each of the three charges. He is also prohibited from possessing a firearm for the rest of his life.

His name cannot be published under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

In the first of three trials scheduled to take place in space of five months, the 15-year-old boy next goes to trial on July 16 to face charges in relation to an incident on Dec. 18 of last year, charged with housebreaking and assault with a weapon, uttering threats, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm and three counts of failing to comply with conditions of a sentence.

The final trial, set for Oct. 4, will deal with charges laid on Jan. 2 in relation to the alleged home invasion on the O’Chiese First Nation.
