WINDSOR, Ont. — Officials say a search and rescue team has determined no one was trapped when an underground parking garage collapsed Thursday in Windsor, Ont.
An emergency was declared so city officials could call in a provincial urban search and rescue team.
A man in his 20s was sent to hospital after being injured by the collapse.
However, a 35-unit apartment building adjacent to the garage has been evacuated because of structural concerns.
Officials say the residents will be put up in a downtown Windsor hotel while engineers examine the building’s structure.
Mayor Eddie Francis said there’s no word when the area will again be open to the public.
“At the end of the day we’re all ... very much so relieved that there is no one who has been trapped, that there is no life that has been lost under the rubble,” Francis told a news conference.
