Alberta Parks has cancelled camping reservations because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The agency has temporarily suspended all camping reservations, in line with Ontario, B.C., Saskatchewan and Parks Canada, which have already made the change.

The suspension is in place until Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health, is “is confident the health and public safety risk from COVID-19 is reduced, according to Alberta Parks.

Online bookings are already closed for anything up to May 19, and anyone who has made a reservation before that time will receive a full refund.

Any booking after May 19 is still valid, and additional cancellations will be announced as the government assesses the risk of COVID-19.

Currently, dispersed random camping on public land is allowed, but further restrictions may be put in place as the COVID-19 situation unfolds.
