Alberta RCMP issue more than 2,000 tickets over the holidays

The Alberta RCMP stayed busy during the holiday season.

In a press release, they said from Dec. 24 to Jan. 4, 2021, police issued 2,374 traffic tickets across the province. RCMP noted the number of tickets is down 26 per cent from the same time period last year.

Overall, 872 individuals were ticketed for speeding, 55 drivers were caught distracted driving, and 130 impaired drivers were removed from the roads.

Of those impaired drivers, 16 were impaired by alcohol and four impaired by drugs.

Another 1,333 drivers received tickets for traffic violations including careless driving as well as driving with a prohibited or suspended license.

While on the job, a pair of commercial drivers were arrested and charged with impaired driving. A trio of impaired drivers had children in their vehicles ranging in age from two to five-years-old.

A woman in Cochrane crashed into a snowplow and was charged with impaired driving after recording a blood alcohol concentration of 220 mg.
