Two people are facing charges after a pursuit by RCMP.

James Patrick Metzger, 34, was arrested by Rocky Mountain House RCMP on Wednesday after he allegedly attempted to ram a police vehicle with a stolen truck.

Danielle Bishop, 28, a female passenger in the stolen vehicle, faces a number of charges related to other incidents.

The ordeal started when RCMP located a stolen truck on Highway 54, near Caroline.

After RCMP attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle made a U-turn on the highway and attempted to ram the police vehicle.

Once a spike strip was deployed, the driver continued to try and evade police by intentionally crashing through a gate to an oilfield lease site.

When the truck became stuck, the driver got out of the vehicle and fired a round from a shotgun before being arrested.

No injuries were reported.

“An incident like this highlights the inherent dangers our RCMP members face on a daily basis,” said Sgt. Trevor Shea of the Rocky Mountain House detachment.

“I am pleased with how our members responded and how swiftly this dynamic event was resolved with no resulting injuries to anyone.”

Bishop is scheduled to appear in court on Monday and Metzger on Nov. 18.
