A 25-year-old Calgarian is facing a number of charges after allegedly assaulting a Red Deer RCMP officer during a traffic stop.

Moses Danto faces eight charges, including assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, disarming a peace officer and flight from a peace officer.

The officer involved in the incident sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the hospital.

Danto was stopped on the afternoon of Sept. 16 at the intersection of 68th Street and Taylor Drive. The stop led to an impaired driving investigation, and after the driver refused, he attempted to flee.

The RCMP officer attempted to stop the suspect and an altercation occurred. Danto then fled in his vehicle and was caught by police a short time later.

Following a judicial hearing, Danto was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Oct. 2.
