The Red Deer RCMP is telling community members to be careful of parcel thefts during the holiday season.

They said that parcel thefts from porches and mailboxes increase this time of year and there are easy ways to avoid it.

  • Track your packages online and plan to be home when packages are supposed to arrive, or arrange for an alternate pickup option.
  • When possible, opt for a “signature required” delivery.
  • Check your mail every day. If you plan to be away, have a trusted neighbour or friend check your mail.

They also encourage Red Deerians to consider installing surveillance cameras. For those that do have a camera, they advise in can be registered with the RCMP’s CAPTURE program. The program helps citizens take an active role in deterring crime and assisting the RCMP’s overall crime prevention in Red Deer.
