The Red Deer RCMP arrested a pair of suspects near École Mountview School which resulted in a large police presence in the area Saturday afternoon.

Originally, two suspects were seen around 12:45 p.m. in a car with stolen license plate but fled and were not pursued. A short time later, the RCMP queried a vehicle for a license plate that did not match the vehicle, a pick-up truck. That pick-up was located in the Mountainview area. RCMP found a 23-year-old male, who was driving the earlier stolen vehicle and placed him under arrest. The stolen car from earlier in the day was also found nearby.

They also detained a second male, who fled and was chased on foot. He climbed onto the roof of École Mountview School and while trying to evade police, was stuck in a ceiling vent. The male eventually surrendered.

The 28-year-old male who became stuck in the vent sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries that required he be taken to hospital for emergency medical treatment.

The 23-year-old male remains in police custody pending a judicial hearing.
