Red Deer-Mountain View MP honours local Korean War veterans

Smiley Douglas and Don Holloway both passed away this year

Red Deer-Mountain View MP Earl Dreeshen honoured the lives of two local Korean War veterans in the House of Commons Tuesday.

In his member statement, Dreeshen spoke about Smiley Douglas and Don Holloway, who died this year.

“Don Holloway’s lifetime of military service included time in the Korean War as a combat engineer. His dedication to veterans and the community was recognized with Red Deer’s Honourary Senior Citizen of the year award,” said Dreeshen in his statement.

“Lance Corp. Smiley Douglas was awarded a Military Medal for saving his comrades lives when he picked up a grenade and threw it clear of them. He was also a friend and neighbour.”

Douglas died on March 6 and Holloway died on April 13.
