One of Red Deer’s most well-known community leaders and philanthropists has been recognized following the investiture of 15 Albertans into the Alberta Order of Excellence.
Following repeated postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Red Deer’s Joan Donald and other new members were invested into the Order in scaled-back, intimate ceremonies that strictly followed current public health restrictions.

Donald “has enriched the social and economic health of her community by bringing governance and leadership to boardrooms of organizations that range from business, health and education to social justice, sport and culture,” says the Government of Alberta’s website.
She is one of eight Albertans inducted in 2021. Seven from 2020 were invested as well. These new additions bring the total membership of the Alberta Order of Excellence to 197.
The Order recognizes Albertans who have made an outstanding provincial, national or international impact.
