Fitness fans can rejoice as City of Red Deer recreation facilities and amenities welcome back patrons.

Over the next three weeks, based on Alberta Health guidelines, activities and facilities will gradually reopen.

On Monday, day camps will go ahead for many ages and ice at the Collicut Centre will be available for user groups.

“We know citizens are anxious to get back into our facilities and to resume their recreation and culture activities,” said recreation superintendent Barb McKee on Thursday.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we have worked through the necessary planning to adapt our operations to meet provincial health regulations. We are now ready to start welcoming citizens back to our facilities and spaces.”

On Tuesday, outdoor fitness classes will start, and on Thursday, the Blue Grass Sod Farm Central Spray and Play, as well as the Lava Rock at Kin Kanyon, will open. They will have a capacity of 100 people.

July 13 will mark the return of lane swimming to the Michener Aquatic Centre, and on July 20, the indoor fitness area and running track will be open at the Collicutt Centre. Indoor fitness classes will not be available.

Also on July 20, public swimming at both the Collicutt and G.H. Dawe Community Centre will open. Individuals will need to register and capacity limits will be in place.

Also on that day, swimming lessons will return to both facilities.

July 20 will also herald the opening of the field house and gym at each of the Collicutt Centre, G.H. Dawe Community Centre and Michener Aquatic Centre. They will be only available for rental or registered activities.

The dry space at the Kinex will also be available for user groups only on July 20.
