Warmer days ahead as January comes to an end

Central Albertans are in for a brief break from the bitter cold this weekend.

Wind chills will drop the temperature near -27 C Friday but by the afternoon, temperatures will start to turn.

Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny with a high of -12 C and a low of -14 C.

On Sunday temperature will dip closer to the January average, with the forecast expected to be between -3 C and -5 and sunny.

There is no snow expected in the forecast between Friday and Monday morning.

The record high temperature for Jan. 30 is 9.4 C in 1941, with a record low of -42.8 C in 1969. The record high temperature for Jan. 31 was 8.5 C in 2005, while the record low was -41.1 C in 1947.
