Hosted by the Unitarian Fellowship of Red Deer, the annual event brings pet owners together to mark the birthday of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. SPCA executive director Julie Crawford gave the blessing for the eight dogs and a cat that attended the event.

CIBC Run for the Cure

The symbols are to mark October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in anticipation of the CIBC Run for the Cure to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation on Sunday. The event begins with final registration and donation drop-off at 8 a.m., followed by the warmup at 9:45 and the run itself along one- and five-km routes at 10 a.m., with the awards handed out at 11.
