Alpine skiing coming to Red Deer this weekend

The slopes at Canyon Ski Resort will be alive this weekend

The slopes at Canyon Ski Resort will be alive this weekend as the Red Deer Ski Club hosts a North Zone Regional Series Alpine race on Jan. 28 and 29.

The race is open to all ski racers under the age of 21 who are registered with the North Zone Regional Alpine Ski Program.

There will be two giant slalom races each day for both male and female athletes.

“Ski racing is an exciting sport where the athletes really do gain incredible lifetime skills,” president of the Red Deer Ski Club Lyle Johnson said in a press release.

“Hosting an annual race at Canyon Ski Resort is important to Red Deer Ski Club as it gives recreational ski families a chance to see what ski racing is all about.

“Canyon Ski Resort is a great partner and always ready to accommodate race days as it showcases the hill and everything it has to offer.”

Registration for the races gets under way Jan. 28 at Canyon Ski Resort with races expected to get underway around 10:30 a.m. Time for the afternoon run is 2 p.m. but subject to change based on racer numbers.
