Calgary Northstars sweep Red Deer Optimist Chiefs in playoff series

The Calgary Northstars got the better of the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs Saturday night.

The Calgary Northstars got the better of the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs Saturday night.

Just like that, with a 5-3 victory, the Northstars swept the Optimist Chiefs from the first round of the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs.

Calgary scored three times in the opening frame at Servus Arena before Kyle Wallace got Red Deer on the board in the second.

Calgary then went ahead 5-1 in the first 11 minutes of the third period. Ben Perreault and Foxx Doell scored added tallies for Red Deer in the final frame.
