The Central Alberta Buccaneers put their best foot forward to start the Alberta Football League season.

In the opener, the Bucs downed the Calgary Wolfpack 31-21 on the road. Central Alberta led 21-14 at halftime.

Axsivier Lawrence, Braydon Epp and Ben Hnatiuk all had touchdowns in the rain-soaked affair.

The Bucs will play their home opener June 1 at Great Chief Park at 6 p.m. against the defending national champion Fort McMurray Monarchs.
