A trio of Central Alberta hockey teams were crowned provincial champions on the weekend.
In the second weekend of Hockey Alberta Provincials, the Stettler Storm in the Midget C division and the Irma Aces in the Midget Female B division, reigned supreme at their respective championships. The Provost Blades were also winners at the Peewee B Provincials in La Crete.
Stettler topped the Elk Point Avalanche 9-4 to win their title in Rimbey. Stettler went undefeated in round robin play with three wins.
The Aces won a 3-2 overtime thriller against the Whitecourt Wolverines to win their banner. Irma was 3-0-1 in round robin play and scored 21 goals and only allowed five against.
Provost knocked off Elk Point 9-0 in the championship game to earn gold. Blades player Colson Ganser led the tournament with eight goals. He finished second in points on the weekend with 14.
On the opening weekend of Hockey Alberta Provincials from March 16-19, the Olds Grizzlys and Bentley Canucks took home championships.
Olds bested the Medicine Hat Wildcats 2-1 in overtime at the Peewee Female B provincials in Medicine Hat. Olds player Sharlese Weigum led the tournament with nine points.
Bentley picked up a wild 10-8 win at provincials on home ice over the Mallaig Monarchs on March 18. Canucks defenceman Kyler Beechinor had a hat trick and two assists in the win. Forward Keelan Ferguson also had a hat trick in the win.
