Sylvan Lake’s Carter Graf made a strong statement in round two of the Alberta Junior Golf Championships.

Graf, 18, tore it up in the second round of the 72-hole event at Highwoods Golf and Country Club in High River.

After holding a sharing of the lead through round one, he fired a four-under-par 66 and sits at seven-under overall, to lead Ethan Choi by three strokes. The duo are also future teammates at NC State in the NCAA.

Representing Red Deer Golf and Country Club, Graf was steady on Wednesday, recording only one bogey to go along with five birdies.

Lacombe’s Brady McKinlay is also in the hunt, sitting at one-under for the tournament and tied for fourth. He shot 68 on Tuesday, then had a one-over-par 71.

Logan Graf also made the cut, finishing Wednesday tied for 18th at seven-over. He was even par after round one. Red Deer’s Cole Bergheim will play Thursday, he finished at plus-eight.

Innisfail’s Joe Kelly got in under the cut line with a two-round total of 10-over-par. Alex Gerrard finished at 11-over and will play Thursday.
