Two athletes at the opposite ends of their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference careers were honoured as RDC Athletes of the Week.
Karlee Fetch, a fifth-year goalie for Queens’ hockey, won the award alongside first-year outside hitter Carter Hills of Kings’ volleyball.
Fetch picked up a pair of victories on the weekend, including a 1-0 shutout on home ice against the SAIT Trojans. Her first shutout of the ACAC season Friday was a 27-save masterpiece that helped the Queens hold steady in the standings. Saturday, she boosted the Queens to a 2-1 win in Calgary, also over the Trojans. She made 32 saves in that victory.
Fetch, a Prince Albert native in her final year of ACAC eligibility is fourth across the league in save percentage at 0.922 and fourth in goals against average with a 2.02. She has an 8-3 record on the year and is also third in the league in winning percentage with a 0.727.
The Queens will visit the MacEwan University Griffins Friday and host them Saturday at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre.
Hills, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter is having an outstanding rookie campaign for the Kings. The Legal, Alta., product had a huge impact on a pair of weekend wins for RDC. Friday, he pitched in 11 kills, eight digs and two aces in a sweep over the Olds College Broncos. Saturday, he had a game-high 15 kills, three stuff blocks, two digs and one ace in another win over the Broncos.
The first-year is now averaging 2.88 kills-per-set, leading the Kings and ninth overall in the ACAC. He has 193 kills in 67 sets this season.
