Innisfail’s Joe Kelly runner up at Olds Junior Open

The McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Golf Tour ended a run of three tournaments in three days at Olds Central Highlands Golf Club on Tuesday.

The McLennan Ross Alberta Junior Golf Tour ended a run of three tournaments in three days at Olds Central Highlands Golf Club on Tuesday.

Close to 24 players took part in the event, navigating a soggy layout but dodging rain or lightning throughout the round.

In the end, Chase Bodoano of Broadmoor Golf Club in Sherwood Park snagged the victory with a one-under 71. He edged out Innisfail’s Joe Kelly, who shot a 74. Kelly’s score was second overall, but tops in the boys born in 2003/04 category, to earn him a spot in the Tour Championship at Wolf Creek on Aug. 23.

Cole Fox of Innisfail also earned a spot in the club championship, finishing third in the age group with an 84. Colby Sims (87) of Pine Hills GC in Rocky Mountain House also qualified.

In the Junior Girls division, Brynne Davis of Earl Grey earned top spot, with Morgan McInnis of Olds finishing in second. Nicole Rohr, 11, of Camrose finished third and earned her first ever spot in the season-ending tournament.

The next three tournaments on the tour are Whitetail Crossing GC in Mundare plays host on Tuesday, July 16, followed on Wednesday, July 17 at Montgomery Glen GC in Westaskiwin, and concluding a week from tomorrow on Thursday, July 18 in Camrose.
