The Alberta Junior Hockey League has postponed the season in the wake of the province’s new COVID-19 measures.

The league, which opened the regular season on Nov. 13, will pause until Dec. 19 when they will determine a timeline and new return to play protocols.

They said in a press release the season is on pause “until limitations are lifted and we are permitted to safely return”.

Since the league has returned to play several teams have been forced to miss games because of positive COVID-19 tests. The Canmore Eagles first received a positive test and the Calgary Canucks had to postpone a game after a positive test on Nov. 20. Five games were cancelled as a result of those positive tests.

The Sakatchewan Junior A Hockey League put a pause on games until after Christmas as a result of new COVID-19 measures in that province and the B.C. Hockey League halted the year until Dec. 8 because of new provincial guidelines.
