A local hockey product is being recognized among the best in her age class.
Ponoka product Kylie Perry, who played last season with the Red Deer Midget AAA Sutter Fund Chiefs, was selected to attend the BFL CANADA National Women’s Under-18 Team Summer Camp.
Last year, the 16-year-old forward from Clive posted nine goals and 12 points in 28 games with the Sutter Fund Chiefs in the Alberta Female Hockey League.

Perry was one of 59 players invited to attend virtual meetings, which will go ahead twice weekly until the 2021 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships. That tournament is tentatively planned for April of 2021 in Halifax and Turo, Nova Scotia.
“It is important to recognize the accomplishment of these athletes being identified in our program at the under-18 and development level; they are a big part of our future moving forward,” said Gina Kingsbury, director of women’s national teams with Hockey Canada in a press release.
The virtual camps will include meetings throughout the summer to cover topics such as at-home strength and conditioning, mental performance and nutrition, dry land skills, skating simulation and team-building activities.
Perry was one of just four players from Alberta invited to participate in the online camp.
