Pre-tournament world junior games to be held at Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre

Three game passes are available for $25, with single-game tickets at $10

Hockey fans eager for an early look at some of the top international U20 hockey players in the world will have a chance next week.

The Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre will play host to three pre-tournament games ahead of the 2022 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships, which get underway on Boxing Day.

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Red Deer Polytechnic to host U.S.A., Czech Republic, Switzerland and Germany as they get set for the 2022 World Junior Championship,” said Rob Litwinski, CEO Hockey Alberta in a press release.

“It was our vision in building the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Center with Red Deer Polytechnic, that we would be able to bring events like these to our community.

“It’s not only a chance to be a part of building the excitement for the tournament in Red Deer and Central Alberta, but also to offer an affordable, intimate World Juniors experience.”

Three-game passes are $25, or just $10 for each game. On Monday, Team U.S.A. will take on the Czech Republic at 7:30 p.m., Switzerland battles Germany at 5 p.m. on Dec. 21 and the series finishes with Switzerland squaring off against the Czech Republic at 5 p.m. on Dec. 23.

Doors will be open one hour prior to game time and concessions and a bar will be open on-site.

As per Hockey Canada’s vaccination policy, all individuals 12 years of age and older must provide QR code proof of double vaccination. Negative COVID-19 tests will not be accepted for this event.
