The Lindsay Thurber Raiders are set to host the 4A Alberta Schools Athletic Association Volleyball men’s and women’s Provincials this week.
While Lindsay Thurber is the official host of the tournament, matches will also be played at Hunting Hills High School and Gateway Christian School.
Both the Raiders and the Lightning men and women’s teams qualified for the 10-team provincial tournament.
On the women’s side, the Lightning are ranked second and will open round-robin play on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at Hunting Hills against Harry Ainlay. Lindsay Thurber is ranked ninth and will play Catholic Central at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Lindsay Thurber.
Lindsay Thurber knocked off Hunting Hills in two straight matches in the central zone championships last week.
William Aberhart of Calgary is the top-ranked team on the women’s side.
On the men’s side, the Raiders are ranked second and will square off against Sir Winston Churchill Thursday at 9:30 a.m. to open the tournament. The Lightning are ranked ninth and will play Chinook at Gateway at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
The Raiders won the best-of-three central zone final over the Lightning last Friday.
The tournament continues Friday and Saturday, with the women’s final set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday and the men’s final to follow at 7:30 p.m at Lindsay Thurber.
Spectators will not be permitted for round-robin games and only “identified spectators” as selected by each school will be permitted for playoffs.
Webcasts will be available for fans to watch the games.
