The RDC Queens used a strong third quarter to pick up their second straight victory.
Friday, the Queens scored 27 points to open the second half on the way to a 77-51 win over the Ambrose University Lions in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference women’s basketball play.
Britney Peters led the charge for RDC with a double-double, cashing 18 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Second-year guard Harneet Sidhu also had a strong game with 16 points, nine assists, four rebounds and four steals. Third-year guard Sandra Garcia-Bernal contributed in several areas, with eight rebounds, eight assists, eight points an four steals.
The Queens shot 41 per cent from the field, only 18 per cent from three-point range and 43 per cent from the free throw line. RDC had a one point lead at half time but outscored the Lions 27-12 in the third and 20-10 in the fourth to pick up the victory.
With three games left in the ACAC season, the Queens are 9-9 and sit fifth in the ACAC south. The top four teams in the division make the ACAC playoffs.
The RDC Kings lost a crucial game in their hunt for the ACAC playoffs Friday.
They fell 106-90 to the Ambrose University Lions.
Fifth-year-guard Spencer Klassen had a strong night for the Kings with 22 points, along with four rebounds and three steals. Tyronn King also had a big game with 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
RDC trailed 50-40 at half time and allowed 31 points in the third quarter before outscoring the Lions 30-25.
The Kings are 8-10 on the year and sit fifth in the ACAC with three games to play.
RDC will host the Lions Saturday, with the Queens tipping off at 6 p.m. and the Kings to follow.
