The RDC Queens picked up a pair of crucial wins on the weekend in Lethbridge.

Friday night, RDC knocked off the Lethbridge College Kodiaks 76-67 in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference women’s basketball play.

Saturday, they completed the sweep with a gritty 79-76 win. The four-point weekend has the Queens within two points of a playoff spot. They now have a 6-7 record on the season.

In Saturday’s win, the Queens fell behind 21-17 in the first quarter, but had a massive surge in the second, outscoring the Kodiaks 25-5. The Kodiaks clawed back in the second half, outscoring the Queens 50-37. RDC shot 44 per cent from the field in the win, 36.4 per cent from three and 63 per cent from the free-throw line. They also outrebounded the Kodiaks 41-28.

Third-year guard Sandra Garcia-Bernal led the attack for the Queens, with 22 points and 12 rebounds, along with six assists and four steals. Third-year Britney Peters also had a big game with 17 points and six rebounds. Third-year forward Lauren Cardinal and second-year Harneet Sidhu each also chipped in 16 points in the victory.

Friday, the Queens also had a strong second quarter, putting out 25 points and outscoring Lethbridge 25-12. Peters led the attack in that win, scoring 18 points and collecting eight defensive rebounds. Garica-Bernal added 13 points, while Sidhu had 13. Off the bench, Valentina Rincon had a big game with 16 points and eight rebounds. Kodiaks guard Millay Johnson had a game-high 22 points in the loss.
