Red Deer Optimist Chiefs off to 0-4 start

The Red Deer Optimist Chiefs are off to a slow start in the Alberta Elite U18AAA Hockey League.

The Red Deer Optimist Chiefs are off to a slow start in the Alberta Elite U18AAA Hockey League.

The Chiefs suffered a pair of losses over the weekend and are 0-4 to start the year.

Saturday, the Cheifs were shutout 2-0 by the CAC Gregg Distributors in Calgary and Sunday, they were blanked 3-0 by the Airdrie CFR Bisons. Kaden Toussaint had 24 saves in the loss Saturday and Mavry Fluet stopped 30 shots in the loss Sunday.

The Red Deer North Stars U16AAA group dropped the puck on their season over the weekend.

Red Deer started with a 6-2 victory on home ice Saturday against the Calgary Nortstars, before falling 7-1 to the Calgary Royals on Sunday on the road.

In Saturday’s victory, Maddox Mason led the way with a pair of goals, while Mason Sabasch and Kaiden Sydenham each added a goal and an assist. Connor Baumbach turned aside 24 shots in the victory, Matthew Deaver added a goal and Brady Leroux picked up two assists in the victory.

Sabasch had the only goal Sunday and Cooper Moore drew the assists.
