Red Deer Vipers win big on weekend

The Red Deer Vipers extended their winning streak to three games on the weekend in Heritage Junior B Hockey League play.

The Red Deer Vipers extended their winning streak to three games on the weekend in Heritage Junior B Hockey League play.

Jace Paarup had a standout effort in a 7-1 victory Saturday over the Stettler Lighting, notching a hat trick and adding an assist. Tanner Scott, Nicholas Scott and Jacksyn Goodall all added goals. Goodall also had three assists for a four-point night in the win. Goalie Justin Anderson had 28 saves for the Vipers.

Friday on the road, the Vipers also scored a wild 7-6 overtime victory against the High River Flyers. Justin Paarup had the overtime winner on a penalty shot 4:04 into the extra frame. He also added three assists. Elijah Johnson, Austin Gallant, Jace Paarup and Rylan Burns also scored once, while Connor Sullivan added a pair of tallies in the win. Vipers goalie Dawson Weatherill made 37 saves for the victory.

Both Sylvan Lake and Rocky Mountain House also earned wins Saturday.

The Wranglers knocked off the High River Flyers 5-2 in Sylvan Lake. Braidon Westin had a goal and two assists, Brett Westin added two goals for the Wranglers. Sloan Garritty and Wade Lightburn also added tallies and Cameron Loomis-Labrosse stopped 30 shots in the win.

The Rams won 3-2 in a shootout over the Lomond Lakers. Ryan Chambers had the shootout winner and Devon Carroll made 27 saves in the win. Carroll also stopped all three Lakers’ shooters in the shootout. Chambers and Kelher Bagstad scored in regulation for the Rams.
