Last week was one dream realized for Red Deer’s Carter O’Donnell and Thursday it was another.

The offensive lineman, who played the last four seasons for the University of Alberta Golden Bears, after being passed over in the 2020 NFL Draft last weekend, signed a deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

Then Thursday, O’Donnell was picked 22nd overall by the Montreal Alouettes in the 2020 CFL Draft.

The 21-year-old signed a three-year deal worth $2.5 million overall with the Colts last week, and $610,000 in the first year, according to Sportrac, a sports contract tracking website.

O’Donnell was ranked third overall by the CFL Scouting Bureau heading into the draft Thursday.
