The Red Deer Rampage have a big opportunity in front of them.
Red Deer will play host to the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Junior B Tier I Championships, with the top two Alberta teams advancing to a playdown. The winner of that playdown earns a ticket to the Founder’s Cup in Winnipeg, Man. next month.
The Rampage will kick off play on Friday morning at 9 a.m. against the Rockyview Silvertips, who they beat in the central division best-of-three final. At 6 p.m. Friday, they’ll play the Calgary Junior B Shamrocks. The Shamrocks are the defending RMLL champions.
Red Deer is riding high heading into provincials, as winners of 12 straight games including the playoff victory over Rockyview. Head coach Trey Christensen said that’s a big advantage for his group.
“Just good habits. When we play against some of those stronger teams, it’s something we’ll really have to look at is a full 60-minute game,” the head coach noted earlier this week.
Representing the east division are the 2017 champs, the Manitoba Blizzard.
The Fort Saskatchewan Rebels round out the five-team field.
Sunday, the gold medal game gets underway at 1 p.m.
