Video: Children’s Festival

So last week I droned on about the sad and sordid tale of my attempt to get a drone to fly. One of those remote controlled little helicopter units with the attached camera and 117 pages of instructions. As I mentioned, it flew like a brick.

Once before I mentioned a former Red Deer ‘Man of the Street’ named Basil. He was a totally unique individual whom most Red Deer residents called a bum. He was unique in that he was readily identifiable in his walk, physical stature, and dress.

Many have been our conversations about choices we make in life, (both good and bad), but none of these discussions were as poignant and real as the choices made by the man sitting across the table from me. This silver haired senior from Yellowknife along with his beautiful wife are in Red Deer visiting and were brought to my attention through one of our most faithful volunteers.

The foundation of RDC’s success comes from our passion for teaching and learning. But student learning doesn’t just happen in classrooms. Our partnerships with our communities, organizations and businesses allow us to offer practical, applied learning and research experiences that enable students to apply what they learn to real-world problems.

So I went flying the other day. Well, more to the point, I went attempting to fly the other day. And I never did get off the ground. Bear with me for second, as I drone on.
